World of Money

By Cash Camp, Inc. (WorldofMoney.org)

A youth-led financial literacy app featuring 53 short video lessons that teach kids fundamental money concepts through peer-to-peer learning in an age-appropriate way.

I'm always on the lookout for tools that teach kids real money skills without the usual gimmicks. World of Money is that rare find – a completely free financial literacy app created by a nonprofit with a genuine mission to educate, not upsell.

What makes this app special? It's kids teaching kids. These aren't corporate actors or cartoon characters – they're real young people who've graduated from World of Money's programs, speaking directly to their peers about everything from saving basics to investment concepts. There's something incredibly powerful about seeing someone your own age explain money matters.

The 53 video lessons are bite-sized (just 3 minutes each) and followed by quizzes to check understanding. I love that they've thoughtfully divided content into four age groups, so a 7-year-old isn't getting the same material as a 19-year-old. The lessons cover impressive ground: banking fundamentals, budgeting, credit concepts, investing, entrepreneurship – even taxes and insurance.

What you won't find here are the banking tools that apps like Greenlight or GoHenry offer. There's no debit card, no allowance tracking, no spending controls. This is purely educational. For some families, that's perfect. For others, you might want to pair it with a more practical tool.

The interface is straightforward but dated – the last update was back in 2019. I'd love to see refreshed content and more interactive elements beyond just videos and quizzes. That said, the absolute zero data collection policy is refreshing in today's privacy-challenged world.

For parents on tight budgets, this app is a gift. While competitors charge $4-15 monthly for their services, World of Money delivers solid financial education completely free. It's backed by a reputable 501(c)(3) organization that's been teaching kids about money since 2005.

Bottom line? If you want your kids to understand money concepts without the constant push toward consumerism, World of Money delivers honest, straightforward financial education. It's not the flashiest option, but sometimes the best lessons come without all the bells and whistles.
